Why You Should Book a Photographer for Your Family Reunion
Family reunions are one of the few chances you get to see everyone, the grandparents, the grandkids, the cousins you haven’t seen in years. And when everyone’s in one place, it’s the perfect opportunity to capture a group photo for the fridge, above the fireplace, or maybe even your phone’s lock screen.
Whatever the occasion, there’s something special about seeing one big, happy family all together.
Why Book a Family Reunion Session?
My family reunion sessions are quick, just 30 minutes (or 1 hour if you have around 20 individuals). That may sound short, but there’s a reason for it. Coordinating a large group with a wide range of ages and attention spans isn’t easy (I come from a big family too, I get it!). A two-month-old and a ten-year-old won’t react the same way in front of a camera, and that’s the beauty of it.
We’ll embrace the chaos, make it fun, and work with whatever personalities show up. It’s loud, it’s silly, and yes, sometimes it’s a bit wild. But it’s real, and that’s what makes the photos great.
What to Expect from Your Session
The session is relaxed, fast-moving, and efficient. No stiff poses. No dragging it out.
We’ll start with the essential group photos, full family, smaller groupings, grandkids with grandparents, and so on. Once those are done, I’ll blend into the background a bit to capture the natural interactions.
You don’t need to plan anything fancy. You don’t have to match outfits. Just show up, be together, and I’ll handle the rest.
How Many Photos Will You Get?
Each session delivers 45–60 edited images. I use two cameras during the session, switching between them in seconds to get a variety of angles and compositions. One moment it’s a close-up, the next it’s a wide shot of everyone laughing or connecting, all within the same breath. The result: a gallery full of variety, personality, and genuine connection.
Where Do Sessions Take Place?
I typically photograph family reunions at local parks and nature centers — wide open spaces with great light and plenty of room for big groups. Have a family property you love? I’m happy to come to you. We’ll chat about location details and travel fees and make it happen. In the Waukesha area, some of my favorite session spots include Retzer Nature Center and Downtown Delafield. These locations offer a great mix of shaded trails and-open space.
Whether you’re in Pewaukee, Hartland, Oconomowoc, Brookfield, or nearby, these areas offer beautiful parks, lakefronts, and family-friendly spaces that make perfect backdrops for reunion sessions.
When Will You Get Your Photos?
You’ll receive your finished gallery within 2–4 weeks (often sooner). I’ll send a link to your full collection where you can download, share, and print your images however you’d like.
Why It’s Worth Hiring a Photographer
Sure, you could ask someone to take a few photos on a phone. But someone always gets left out. Or the lighting is tricky. Or the moment passes too quickly. Hiring a professional means no one’s missing from the photo, and the images you get back are high-quality, print-worthy, and something you’ll actually want to frame. Because as rare as it is to get everyone together, it’s even rarer to have great photos of it.
Ready to Plan?
If your family has a reunion on the calendar, now’s the time to reserve a session. Spring, summer, and fall dates tend to book up quickly, and the earlier we plan, the smoother it all goes.
